Avidyne is introducing Quantum, an open avionics platform designed for advanced air mobility (AAM) aircraft, the company announced yesterday. The avionics platform comes with a full suite of customizable hardware, software, and artificial intelligence (AI) processors, as well as access to Avidyne’s licensable intellectual property and engineering support services.

According to Avidyne, the Quantum platform is ideal for aircraft developers and systems integrators working on next-generation aircraft using alternative energy sources, distributed electric propulsion systems, and/or highly autonomous flight technologies with AI capabilities. The system’s open architecture gives aircraft developers the flexibility to create a highly optimized and cost-effective custom avionics suite for just about any type of AAM aircraft.

“Developing these innovative new technologies and their associated certification basis requires avionics solutions that enable customization, rapid prototyping, and iterative experimental flight testing,” said Avidyne president Dan Schwinn. “Quantum leverages Avidyne’s broad portfolio of products and [internet protocol] coupled with our nearly 30 years of engineering and certification experience to bring to market a certifiable avionics platform explicitly designed to address these requirements.”

Quantum includes a broad portfolio of lightweight computers and displays, as well as navigation, communication, autopilot, and surveillance systems. Software functions, which can be licensed or customized, include synthetic vision, maps, charts, weather, air traffic data, and collision avoidance systems. The platform can also be used in ground stations for the operations of remotely piloted and autonomous aircraft.

Avidyne plans to display a configuration of the Quantum avionics solution at the upcoming Paris Air Show, which takes place June 19 to 23 at the Paris Le Bourget Airport.
