Content Body

According to the recently reissued FAA Order 7210.882, "Unmanned Aircraft Operations in the National Airspace System," unmanned aerial systems (UAS) activities must be provided services following the policy, criteria and procedures in this order. Current FAA policy says no one may operate a UAS in the NAS without specific authority, the requirements for which are outlined in 7210.882.

The FAA recognizes that people and companies other than radio control modelers might be flying UAS with the mistaken understanding they are legally operating under the authority of AC 91–57. That AC, however, applies only to modelers and specifically excludes any uses for business purposes. The agency reminds users that should a conflict about use arise, local agency supervisors must request a clarification from their respective service unit.
