Content Body

Investigations are continuing into the rash of laser pointer incidents throughout the U.S. Over just a two-day period last week, a dozen incidents were reported to the FAA, including the latest in which an Alaska Airlines flight inbound to Seattle was struck about 11 p.m. on July 16. The FAA is also investigating 11 other incidents, all of which occurred in the New Jersey area as aircraft were inbound to Newark International airport, on July 15 between 9 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. Pilots from Delta, JetBlue, Porter, United, American and Republic Airlines reported laser activity.

There have been 2,752-recorded laser incidents so far this year; 3,895 incidents were reported during all of last year. The FAA has a dedicated website for reporting laser incidents.
