Enthusiastic airshow delegates wishing to relax during their stay in the city-state can design and test-fly their own supersonic jet and take a simulated elevator ride to space, according to Science Centre Singapore (SCS) and Boeing (Stands U09 and U23). The U.S. manufacturer is partnering with SCS in the Above and Beyond interactive flight exhibition, which continues until April 8.

“Space travel and exploration has fascinated and inspired generations the world over," said SCS chief executive associate professor Lim Tit Meng. "What we have achieved through the centuries is proof that we can indeed transcend limitations through multiple domains of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics [STEM]. The exhibition has brought each subject to life and wraps up a full year of programs designed to celebrate the very best in STEM education.”

The 5,000-sq-ft presentation comprises five themed galleries—Up, Faster, Higher, Farther and Smarter—defining flight and space travel and the "marvels of aerospace innovation" including flight simulation, augmented, and "virtual" reality, touch-tables, and design-and-skill challenges.

"We hope that the Above and Beyond exhibit sparks a strong curiosity among the youth in Singapore so that they go on to pursue careers in STEM," said Boeing Southeast Asia president Ralph Boyce. NASA and the Smithsonian Institution National Air and Space Museum have collaborated in Above and Beyond, which has been produced by Evergreen Exhibitions.

After the event's premiere in the U.S., Singapore is the first southeast Asian venue for the traveling exhibition that will visit major science centers and air-and-space museums in multiple countries. Admission to Above and Beyond is free, but standard admission charges apply at the Science Centre.
