RUAG Aviation (Stand F87) has selected the AeroStretcher Mk IV medevac stretcher under an exclusive contract with GVH Aerospace. It will replace heavier double height kits that were developed 30 years ago.

The stretchers are removable so medevac teams are able to transport their patients securely throughout their mission, including transfers to and from the aircraft, avoiding disruptions in care conditions.

Within the Asia-Pacific region there are about 141 Do 228s in service.

"The sales potential for the new kits applies to Dornier 228 multi-role as well as advanced commuter configurations, and for new-generation Dornier 228s as well as classic models," said a RUAG spokesperson. They are in talks with the Bangladesh Navy and Aurigny of the Channel Islands. Bangladesh currently has two Do228s in operation and is looking to have two more delivered soon.

“The Do228 was considered when the Mk IV system was conceptualized," said GVH Aerospace. "The only development and integration work for the Do228 involved the design of two new components on our modularized interface system.”

The number of Mk IV stretchers that can be installed on the Do228 depends on the cabin configuration and the aircraft mission.

GVH Aerospace told AIN that the company received inquiries for the system from at least three Do228 operators in Europe and Africa, and is currently integrating the stretcher into the Airbus H135 and Leonardo AW139 helicopters.

“We have existing orders from an international AW139 operator, and are in active discussions with several operators and OEMs at the moment,” the spokesperson said.

Currently the medical stretchers are compatible with at least 12 helicopters types, including the Airbus Helicopters H135 and Bell 412, many of which are popular amongst medevac and parapublic operators.
