ECC Leasing, a wholly owned subsidiary of Embraer, has leased four used ERJ135s to South African Airlink to replace some of the airline’s oldest Jetstream 41 turboprops in time for the 2010 FIFA World Cup soccer tournament. Configured in a 37-seat layout and scheduled for placement at South African Airlink’s base in Johannesburg by the end of last month, the airplanes–formerly flown by Indianapolis-based Republic Airways–will serve regional routes expected to see marked traffic increases as the games get under way in June.

As of last month SA Airlink flew to more than 25 destinations in Southern Africa with its 13 J41s, five ERJ135s, four BAe 146s and three Avro RJ85s.
