Airbus A350-900 flight test aircraft MSN3 has completed hot weather testing in Al Ain, in the United Arab Emirates, Airbus announced Wednesday.
The aircraft performed several engine and systems tests in flight as well as on the ground, including heat soak tests, which involve leaving the airplane on the ground and in the sun for several hours and later performing checks on various cooling systems. Temperatures in Al Ain needed to exceed 40 degrees C (104 degrees F) during MSN3’s weeklong stay to allow Airbus to meet the testing objectives.
Scheduled for certification in the third quarter of this year, the A350-900 has performed more than 2,000 flight-test hours over 460 test flights. Airbus plans to deliver the first production airplane to launch customer Qatar Airways in the fourth quarter.
