Global aviation fuels provider Air BP has taken over the management and operation of a fuel services joint venture at South Africa’s Cape Town International Airport, the country’s second busiest behind OR Tambo International in Johannesburg. The joint venture, Cape Town Airport Fueling Services, consists of 45 employees who will manage the fuel storage and into-plane operations. It will be under Air BP’s control for the next three years, according to the contract. For the past five years, Air BP has managed a similar but larger scale operation at Tambo International, and it operates at another seven airports in the country.
“Air BP is committed to working closely with airport authorities, bringing our industry-leading expertise and capabilities in fuel operations to help them manage risk and run the most efficient and effective operations possible,” noted Anthony Leon, the company’s general manager for Southern Africa, at a ceremony announcing the contract.
