Content Body

Airborne security provider Bird Aerosystems (Hall 3 Stand E30) is launching here at the Paris Air Show its AeroShield POD protection system for commercial aircraft in its full configuration. The all-in-one system for narrowbody and widebody jets integrates Bird’s Airborne Missile Protection System (AMPS) with its Spreos Directional Infra-Red Counter Measure (DIRCM), as well as missile launch detection sensors and additional flare dispensers.

AeroShield is “the only pod solution that supports protection by both DIRCM and flares,” said Ronen Factor, Bird’s founder and co-CEO. The AeroShield Pod is operational and currently installed on several executive configured airliners, according to the company. The easily installed system provides platform protection with minimal interference to the aircraft, while remaining fully compliant with EASA/FAA requirements. Moreover, the AMPS-MV advanced configuration ensures a Zero False Alarm rate, and can be easily transferred between different airliner sized airframes.

In the static display area of the Paris Air Show, the Israeli company, in concert with Textron Aviation, displayed a prototype or a Citation CJ4 Special Mission Aircraft (SMA) for land and maritime surveillance. The dual-use (the passenger seats remain installed) CJ4 ASIO (Airborne Surveillance, Intelligence and Observation) SMA offers “extraordinary aircraft capabilities along with a comprehensive multi-sensor configuration that supports diverse operational missions,” said Factor, and “ensures a unified and comprehensive situational awareness picture for the entire task force in the air and on the ground, and enables decision makers to make critical operational decisions in real time.”
