Jeppesen’s FlightDeck Pro mobile device electronic flight bag (EFB) app has new features, including adding the Airport Moving Map function. FliteDeck Pro is one of the few EFB apps that run on both Apple iPads (Version 3.0) and Microsoft Windows 10 tablets (Version 9.0), giving operators flexibility on the type of device they choose to provide to their pilots.
The Airport Moving Map functionality previously was a standalone application, but now is integrated into FliteDeck Pro so pilots don’t have to switch to a different app. “It is the first time this technology has been made available on modern devices like iPad and Windows 10 tablets,” Jeppesen told AIN.
Other new FliteDeck Pro features are Smart Notes, “which analyze chronological and geospatial flight data to present key data points for pilots automatically, without the need for manual interaction,” according to Jeppesen. Smart Notes might display, for example, information for the next waypoint, the FIR name and frequency and the upcoming FIR, RVSM information, airspace class, flight rules, etc.
The new Tailored Enroute feature allows operators to add their own “operationally specific” information that can supplement Jeppesen’s data-driven en route data, “to provide a complete en route picture.” Some of the enhanced navigation information that comes with with Tailored Enroute includes aircraft-specific data, frequencies, track information, grid Minimum Off Route Altitudes and Extended Operations rings, according to Jeppesen.
“The introduction of Jeppesen FliteDeck Pro 3.0/9.0 continues the digital transformation of flight operations, as we add exciting new features to further integrate intelligent information with our EFB platforms,” said Tim Huegel, director, Jeppesen Flight Deck Solutions.
The next major version of FliteDeck Pro with new features developed in concert with EFB app developer ForeFlight is scheduled for release in early 2018.
