FlightSafety International is upgrading one of its Bombardier Dash 8 simulators in Toronto with modern avionics, to improve training for pilots flying the Dash 8 equipped with the Universal Avionics EFI-890R flight deck. The Dash 8 simulator should be flying with the new Universal Avionics displays by the end of the year.
The EFI-890R Flight Deck Modernization program was developed by Field Aviation for the Dash 8 Series 100/200/300. The Transport Canada-, FAA-, and EASA-approved STC includes five Universal Avionics EFI-890R displays, one of which is for engine instrument display, and two each for PFD and MFD functions for each pilot. The displays are identical and thus provide full redundancy in case any fail.
The simulator upgrade underscores the value of the STC for Dash 8 operators, according to Rob Baseggio, Field Aviation vice president of business development. “In addition to solving many obsolescence issues, the options offered with the EFI-890R displays can significantly improve pilot situational awareness and enhance safety.”
“This significant upgrade of our Bombardier Dash 8 simulator demonstrates FlightSafety’s commitment to support the needs of our customers and to help them operate at the highest level of safety,” said Tasneem Hashmi, manager of the Toronto Learning Center.
