Content Body

GKN Aerospace is to build an aero engine component repair and research facility in the Malaysian state of Johor. The new facility, which is set to open in 2019, will service engine fan blades and discs for commercial aircraft, providing additional capacity in the Asia-Pacific region to supplement the aircraft systems manufacturer’s facility in San Diego, California.

The new location, which will employ 150 people initially and rise to 300 over two years, will be GKN’s seventh facility in Asia. It already has sites providing wiring systems, transparencies and services in China, India, Singapore, Thailand, and Turkey. The UK-based group said it chose Johor because of its central location in southeast Asia, strong infrastructure, and skilled workforce.

“This new facility highlights GKN’s commitment to support our customers in Asia, as well as demonstrating our intention to grow our engine capabilities,” said GKN Engine Systems CEO Joakim Andersson. “Our new facility will be a modern repair and research facility, allowing us to leverage the skills of local employees to provide world-class service and quality to our customers.”
