Public scheduled charter company JSX recently completed a new noise abatement study at Orange County, California’s John Wayne Airport (SNA) using accelerated climbs and the MUSEL8 departure. The new procedure was found to reduce related ground noise in residential neighborhoods between the airport and the Pacific Ocean.
The company now says it is “the quietest air carrier over Newport Beach” and that it has reduced its previous noise footprint when it used the FAA NextGen HERRO3 departure at lower altitudes.
JSX operates a mixed fleet of Embraer regional airliners with refurbished 30-seat interiors and business jets. “We believe quiet flying demonstrates our commitment to the residents of Orange County,” said JSX CEO Alex Wilcox.
JSX currently offers per-seat “hop on” service, flying daily out of six airports: Burbank (BUR), Las Vegas (LAS), Orange County (SNA), Napa/Concord (CCR), Oakland (OAK), Seattle-Boeing Field (BFI), and Phoenix (PHX). The SNA noise study results are being evaluated with an eye toward developing a new voluntary noise abatement program there. “We encourage other air carriers to consider following our lead at SNA,” Wilcox said. “We all win when we work together.”
