Content Body

Greece has suspended all flights to and from Qatar until June 15 after the country’s Civil Protection Agency health department found 12 positive Covid cases out of 91 passengers on a June 2 Qatar Airways flight from Doha to Athens International Airport.

Authorities transported all the passengers to quarantine hotels, where anyone testing positive must remain for 14 days. Due to their status as “high-risk contacts,” passengers who tested negative must remain for seven days, after which time health authorities will test them again.

The passengers that tested positive include nine Pakistani nationals, coming from the city of Guhrat and carrying residence permits in Greece; two Greek nationals originating in Australia; and one person of Japanese nationality, a member of a Greek-Japanese family.

Greece plans to allow international passengers to enter the country starting June 15 without having to systematically undergo a Covid test or submit to quarantine, unless they come from airports that appear on European Aviation Safety Agency’s list of airports located in areas with high risk of transmission of infection, including Qatar.
