Ametek Engineered Interconnect and Packaging (EIP), a manufacturer of electronics components, interconnects, and packaging, is highlight its hermetic connectors at the Farnborough Airshow.

“While the aerospace and defense sector experienced an unprecedented disruption due to the pandemic, we see it being one of the most high-profile markets globally and within the context of the U.S. economy,” said Liam Shanahan, Ametek division v-p and business unit manager. “Together, our brands supply the sector with a full suite of hermetic connectors capable of withstanding the most extreme conditions.”

The Cincinnati, Ohio-based company (Stand 4118) hopes to support growing supply chain demands in the commercial and military aerospace sectors by locating new market opportunities for its Hermetic Seal and Sealtron brands.

Conceived in 1945, Hermetic Seal manufactures custom connectors for specific applications and new design specifications, while Sealtron specializes in glass-to-metal hermetically sealed connectors that can be manufactured in large quantities.

“A single aircraft has hundreds of sensors that monitor and control the aircraft’s systems such as engines, fuel tanks, landing gear, and actuators,” the company said. “Hermetically sealed connectors protect those systems against environmental conditions such as atmospheric pressure changes, humidity, moisture, dirt, or other natural contaminants that can affect electronics or compromise signals.”

As the post-Covid environment takes shape, Ametek EIP anticipates a rapid increase in production of commercial and military aircraft, including electronic and eVTOL prototypes, leaving Hermetic Seal and Sealtron well placed to support the latest supply chain demands.

“While the commercial aviation sector was stagnant over the last couple of years, our brands have remained strong,” Shanahan said. “In fact, we made the decision to build upon our strengths and expand our footprint so we’re poised to support the sector as it begins to ramp up.”

Some 10 other Ametek businesses, including Ametek Specialty Metal Products, are represented at the airshow.
