Porter Airlines and Alaska Air Group each placed significant orders for Embraer E-Jets on Tuesday at the Farnborough Airshow.
Toronto-based Porter has placed an order for 20 E195-E2 passenger jets, adding to its 2021 order of 30 airplanes, to extend service throughout North America. The deal, worth $1.56 billion at list prices, will increase the size of Porter’s Embraer firm order backlog to 50 E195-E2s.
Alaska Air Group has ordered eight E175 jets with options for 13 more, valued at $1.12 billion at list prices. The fleet will fly for Alaska Airlines under a capacity purchase agreement with Horizon Air. Earlier this year, Horizon, which flies a combination of 31 Bombardier Q400 turboprops and 30 E175s, announced it would transition to a single fleet of E175 jets. Deliveries between this year and 2026 should see Horizon’s fleet reach 50 E175s.
“The E175 is an extremely efficient aircraft,” said Nat Pieper, senior v-p of fleet, finance, and alliances for Alaska Airlines. “The jet is the perfect aircraft to serve Horizon’s regional network in the Pacific Northwest and beyond.”
Porter serves as the North American launch customer for the E195-E2. Embraer's biggest jet seats between 120 and 146 passengers and will be deployed to popular business and leisure destinations throughout Canada, the U.S., Mexico, and the Caribbean. Porter plans first delivery and entry into service in the second half of 2022.
