Delta TechOps signed a CFM branded service agreement (CBSA) under which it joins the engine-maker’s MRO network for Leap-1B engines. With the agreement, Delta TechOps will offer commercial and technical support for the Leap-1B. Delta TechOps said it is the first MRO provider to sign a CBSA for the engine model.

“The level of support that we can provide as part of the Leap MRO network will help both Delta and our MRO customers achieve efficiency benefits over the life of the product,” said Mahendra Nair, senior v-p fleet and TechOps supply chain for Delta Air Lines.

The announcement comes on the heels of the 200 Leap-1B engines Delta will take to accompany its order for 100 Boeing 737 Max 10s. That order included spares and options for another 60 of the engines, ostensibly dependent on Delta’s options for 30 more Max 10s.

CFM has delivered more than 5,400 installed and spare Leap engines and carries a backlog of approximately 10,000, Delta TechOps noted, adding the fleet has accrued 20 million flight hours and 8.9 million cycles.

“Leap shop visit demand will grow rapidly in the next five to ten years due to the volume of engines in service,” said Tom Levin, v-p of aftermarket strategic solutions for CFM parent company GE Aviation. “This agreement is another crucial step to expanding our open MRO network support.”
