Goodyear’s Flight Radial Tires will be standard equipment on the Airbus A321XLR when it enters service next year, the company said this week at the Paris Airshow. According to Goodyear, the lightweight tire is ready for service on the narrowbody airliner, having already received system part certification from Airbus.
The tire’s technologies and features support dimensional stability for longer life and increased cut resistance, the company noted. Specifically, Goodyear said the Featherweight aluminum core bead shaves weight while maintaining bead geometry, strength, and durability, and the Merged Cord’s Kevlar/nylon DiamondWeave belts enhance strength, lower weight, and optimize tire performance.
“Our main objective in designing the [tire] was finding a balance between the required robustness and keeping the tire as light as possible,” said Goodyear EMEA managing director for over-the-road and aviation Octavian Velcan. “We achieved this in close collaboration with Airbus and delivered an optimized bead design and aerospace-quality materials.”
Goodyear is celebrating its 125th-year anniversary in 2023.
