Content Body

On August 31 the NTSB officially recommended that the FAA require Bombardier to revise the maintenance procedures for the Canadair CRJ 200 so that the aileron free play check is accomplished at an interval less than 2,973 flight hours to prevent flight with aileron free play greater than the maximum limit.

If implemented, NTSB Safety Recommendation A05-21-23 would require operators of the aircraft to record and retain aileron free play check measurements and report the results to the manufacturer. It would also require Bombardier to develop and provide guidance to operators that instructs flight crews in the proper recognition of, and response to, the effects of out-of-tolerance aileron power control unit output linkages.
