GA Must Shoulder Security Load

The job of instituting security procedures will fall primarily on GA itself, the Government Accountability Office (GAO) said, because of limited Transportation Security Administration (TSA) resources and the size and diversity of the GA industry and its airport system. The GAO urged the TSA to develop a risk-management plan to help identify threats and vulnerabilities and to disseminate timely security advisories and threat notifications to general aviation. The TSA plans to issue a self-assessment tool for airport operators to use, but it does not plan to conduct on-site vulnerability assessments of all general aviation airports due to cost and the vastness of the GA network.
