FlightSafety Introducing Sims with Electric Motion

Hydraulic-powered motion systems will be replaced by electromechanical systems in new simulators from FlightSafety International starting late next year. A Gulfstream V simulator at FSI’s Long Beach, Calif. facility, slated for FAA approval in early 2006, will be one of the first devices to be equipped with the electric motion system. FlightSafety said the electric system eliminates all pumps, pipelines and related mechanisms associated with hydraulics and “better meets” the high demands of FAA
level-D operating requirements “of reaction speed and sensitivity.” The electric motion system’s six pistons can also create the required motion “with virtually no sound.”
