For the fourth straight year, Duncan Aviation was named one of the “100 Best Companies to Work For” by Fortune magazine. The Lincoln, Neb.-based aircraft service company employs nearly 2,000 people based at 40 locations. Duncan ranked 77 on this year’s list, which appeared in the January 12 edition of the magazine.
Until this year’s list, Duncan had been climbing steadily upward. The company ranked 62 in 2001, 30 in 2002 and 25 in 2003. Nevertheless, Duncan remains the only general aviation firm on the list. In explanation for its lesser distinction this year, a company spokesperson told AIN that Duncan had imposed a wage freeze last year and discontinued several annual social events to save money.
To compile its list, Fortune selected companies from employee-opinion surveys conducted at 304 candidate firms. The management of each candidate company also filled out a questionnaire detailing its policies, practices and philosophies. The remaining third of the score reflects Fortune’s evaluation of the information presented by employees and their companies.
