Aviation Technology Group’s Javelin very light jet (VLJ) prototype flew for the first time last Friday. ATG markets the ejection-seat-equipped, two-place aircraft as a military trainer as well as a business jet. During the 35-minute mission from Centennial Airport, Colo., test pilots flew the prototype to 12,000 feet and 180 knots with its gear down. “The Javelin handled well on all axes and was very predictable and smooth,” said v-p of operations and chief test pilot Robert Fuschino. “The FADEC-controlled [Williams International] engines were exceptionally responsive.” ATG expects to achieve FAA certification for the Javelin in late 2007 and start deliveries of the $2.175 million aircraft in 2008. The Englewood, Colo. company declined to comment on the number of aircraft ordered.
