Content Body

Addison, Texas-based Mitsubishi Heavy Industries America, which services the more than 400 MU-2s operating outside of Japan, expressed its approval and cooperation with the FAA’s safety evaluation of the twin turboprop. Further, the company has contracted former NTSB investigator Greg Feith to assist in the review. Following two recent MU-2 accidents in Colorado that led to state lawmakers to demand the FAA investigate the safety of the airplane, the agency said it would undertake a safety review of the MU-2. Meanwhile, last Friday, the day after Mitsubishi announced its intention to cooperate in the safety review, MU-2 N103RC, registered to cargo operator River City Aviation, crashed while attempting to return to West Memphis Municipal Airport in Arkansas. The pilot was killed.
