Nearly three months after being directed by Congress to develop a plan for giving pilots and mechanics a “third party” review process if they lose their FAA certificates for alleged security reasons, the Transportation Security Administration has yet to propose such a plan. To date, there have been no FAA certificates pulled under the regulation, according to AOPA. Nevertheless, the association sent a letter to the TSA asking the agency to “take action to implement changes to the TSA/FAA revocation rules” as outlined in the FAA reauthorization legislation, which became law on December 12. In January, rules were adopted requiring the FAA to suspend or revoke a certificate from anyone whom the TSA has “determined poses a security threat.” The rules allow no appeals beyond the TSA.
