Missing Bolt Blamed for Q400 Mishap

Japanese investigators have determined that
a missing support arm bolt caused the nosegear hatch on an All Nippon Airways Bombardier Q400 to jam as it approached Kochi Airport on March 13, forcing the turboprop twin to land on its nose and prompting authorities to ground all Bombardier
Q-series aircraft in the country for nearly two days. ANA replaced the cotter pins that secure the bolts in question on its fleet of 12 Bombardier Q-series aircraft and five Q300s, as did Japan Airlines on its fleet of 11 Q400s. No injuries resulted from the incident, which forced the cancellation of 80 flights.
