Content Body

Jet and turboprop operations under Part 91 were responsible for an increase in fatal turbine business airplane accidents in the first six months of this year compared with the same period last year, according to preliminary figures from corporate aviation safety analyst Robert E. Breiling Associates of Boca Raton, Fla. There were no fatal jet accidents in the first six months of last year versus one Part 91 operation this year, in which eight people were killed. For turboprops, 28 people lost their lives in eight fatal accidents in the first six months of this year versus 16 fatalities in nine accidents in the same period last year. On the other hand, there was an improvement regarding Part 135 jet and turboprop accidents. There were three nonfatal air-taxi accidents of jets in the first six months of this year compared with five last year. Five people were killed in two accidents of Part 135 turboprops this year versus nine fatalities in six accidents in the first half of last year.
