FAA warns operators about illegal parts

The FAA last month issued an Unapproved Parts Notification for George Myles and his company, Miles Aviation of Pompano Beach, Fla., nearly a month after a U.S. District Court sentenced Myles to a 76-month prison term. According to the court, the company sold everything from landing gear to basic nuts and bolts. The FAA’s unapproved parts notice said Miles Aviation was not certified to inspect, repair or overhaul parts, even though those sold from the company were marked as new or new surplus. Tracking which parts originally came from Miles might be difficult because the company sold to third-party suppliers, according to the DOT Inspector General’s Office, which helped prosecute the case.
