AMT Association donates Taylor bust

The Aircraft Maintenance Technicians Association is donating a bronze bust of Charles E. Taylor to American Airlines’ Kansas City Overhaul Base on May 24. The nonprofit association was created to promote aircraft maintenance professionals, who are called either aircraft maintenance technicians (AMT) or aircraft maintenance engineers (AME).

May 24, chosen in honor of Wright brothers mechanic Charles E. Taylor’s birthday, is Aviation Maintenance Technician Day. There are currently 45 AMT Day resolutions passed within the 50 United States, commonwealths and territories. There are 18 in progress, including foreign national AMT Day resolutions. The current 14 Charles E. Taylor Master Mechanic Award recipients, four of whom still work at the AA overhaul base, will be in Kansas City on May 24. Another six C.E.T. Master Mechanic Awards will be presented to American Airlines AMTs at the base.

The association is also planning to donate two more busts of Charles E. Taylor to American Airlines’ Tulsa, Okla., and Alliance, Texas overhaul bases later this year, and one each to Wright State University and the U.S. Air Force Academy.
