Dassault Falcon 900, Rifle, Colo., March 23, 2007–Falcon N129KJ sustained substantial damage when it overran the 7,000-foot-long runway at Garfield County Regional Airport at night in VFR. The crew had the runway in sight on the downwind leg and before reaching the final approach fix for the ILS approach to Runway 36. The pilot flew on the glideslope at approximately Vref plus 10 to 15 knots, then below 1,000 feet at Vref plus 10, touching down approximately 1,500 feet beyond the beginning of the runway. Max braking and full reverse thrust did not slow the jet sufficiently, and there was not enough runway for a go-around. The Falcon ran off the runway into muddy ground. The airport elevation is 5,544 feet msl.
The aft main landing-gear trunion sheared from its attach points, rotated up and punctured the wing skin. No one was injured.
The airplane was operated by Xojet of McClellan, Calif., and registered to Ohana Aircraft of Redwood City, Calif.
