Content Body

The FAA issued a special condition fire-extinguishing requirement for the Adam Aircraft A700. Although fire-extinguishing systems are required by Part 23, that regulation “did not envision the type of configuration of the Model A700,” in which the two Williams FJ33 turbofan engines are not within the pilots’ field of view. The location of the aft fuselage reduces the pilot’s ability to visually detect a fire and/or confirm that the fire has been extinguished, the FAA said. The agency recommends a “two-shot” extinguishing system and proper ventilation in the engine fire zones to prevent the accumulation of flammable vapors. Special Condition 23-210-SC was issued as a requirement for type certification.
