Computer-coded Passport Implementation Delayed

A new U.S. anti-terrorism rule that would have required computer-coded passports for certain foreign nationals entering the U.S. has been put on hold for 12 months. The regulation, to have taken effect on October 1, applies to 27 U.S. trading partner countries whose citizens are not currently required to have a visa to enter the U.S. The rule, now scheduled for enforcement starting next October 1, will require passport holders from those countries to have either a computer-coded passport or a visa to enter the U.S. Those with neither might be denied entry.
