When Sentient Flight Group announced last week that it plans to buy TAG Aviation USA, it didn’t clarify whether this included AMI Jet Charter, 49 percent of which is owned by TAG Aviation USA. The FAA revoked AMI’s charter operating certificate on October 12. While the TAG Aviation USA deal does include “substantially all the operating assets of TAG Aviation USA, including all of its management contracts and AMI Jet Charter and all of its charter management agreements,” Sentient told AIN, “AMI Jet Charter…will no longer be in operation.” Sentient currently owns seven subsidiary charter operators and plans to move all aircraft that were on AMI’s charter certificate to a Sentient charter company. Sentient is a privately held, 100-percent U.S.-owned company, which helps it avoid the FAA’s objection to the TAG Aviation USA/AMI structure. (The agency asserted that foreign-owned TAG was exercising operational control over AMI charter flights.) Switzerland-based TAG Aviation Holding owns TAG Aviation USA.
