Content Body

The completion date for installation of an engineered material arresting system (EMAS) at the end of Teterboro Airport’s Runway 1-19 is “up in the air,” according to airport manager Richard Heslin. The project was scheduled to be completed by next December but has been delayed due to the runway’s proximity to wetlands, and a number of issues that need to be resolved by the Department of Environmental Protection and the Army Corps of Engineers, he said. An EMAS was installed at the end of Runway 6-24 last year. The additions come as part of the airport’s renewed focus on safety, following what Heslin called “a string of [incidents and accidents].”
