Global 5000 Crashes While Landing

Ron Joyce, cofounder of coffee chain Tim Hortons, was one of eight passengers on board a three-and-a-half-week-old Bombardier Global 5000 (registration C-GXPR) that crashed while landing November 11 on a private airstrip in Nova Scotia, Canada. Neither the passengers nor the two crewmembers were injured when Joyce’s large-cabin jet landed short. According to Canada’s Transportation Safety Board, the Global 5000’s gear dug into gravel and snapped off when it hit the lip of the paved surface. The airplane subsequently was sent spinning down the runway on its belly, causing considerable damage. The Board will be looking to see if weather or pilot training and experience were factors.
