Garmin last month said it has gained its first STC covering installation of a retrofit version of the G1000 avionics system. Approved in the King Air C90A/GT, the G1000 suite integrates primary flight information, navigation data, communications, terrain awareness, traffic, weather and engine instruments on a 15-inch-diagonal multifunction display and two 10.4-inch primary flight displays. Garmin noted that King Air C90 pilots will also benefit from the company’s GFC 700 three-axis digital autopilot, featuring modes for coupled WAAS approaches, vertical navigation and flight level change, among others. The system includes dual WAAS GPS receivers, class-B TAWS, XM satellite weather receiver, dual integrated solid-state attitude and heading reference systems and dual integrated digital air-data computers. Next up, Garmin plans to complete a G1000 STC for the King Air 200 and B200 models, the company said.
