Preliminary Report: Citation crash kills four

Cessna 560 Citation Ultra, Carlsbad, Calif., Jan. 24, 2006–Citation Ultra N86CE crashed during an apparent aborted landing on Runway 24 at McClellan-Palomar Airport, killing all four people on board. Approaching at a higher than normal speed, it touched down more than 1,500 feet down the runway and the thrust reversers were deployed, then ultimately stowed.

The Ultra lifted off near the departure end of the runway; the landing gear hit the localizer antenna platform and the left wing caught the platform access ladder. The jet crashed into a self-storage building and caught fire. Weather was reported as clear VFR, and the crew had just canceled the IFR flight plan from Hailey, Idaho.
