Shortly after its purchase by finance house Allied Capital earlier this year, Mercury Air Centers dedicated a new hangar and tenant office facility at Charleston International Airport (CHS) S.C. The 45,000-sq-ft complex is adjacent to Mercury’s existing terminal and incorporates a 23,000-sq-ft hangar bay with 28-foot-high doors that can accommodate large business jets, such as the Gulfstream V.
In addition to the storage hangar bay, there is a 15,000-sq ft maintenance area designed to meet the requirements of an existing customer. A total of 7,000 sq ft of office and shop space is incorporated into the design. The structure is also pre-plumbed with compressed air, and the hangar bay has gas-fired radiant heat.
In a separate announcement, the Charleston County Aviation Authority awarded Mercury Air Centers a new 10-year contract to continue operating the FBO at Charleston Executive Airport (JZI) located on Johns Island, S.C. Mercury was one of four bidders that responded to a request for a proposal. Under the contract, Mercury will make lease-hold improvements, including installing a new above-ground fuel farm.
