“I’m from the FAA and I’m here to help you” will probably remain a dubious phrase, if the results of an FAA customer-satisfaction survey are any sign. In the fourth annual survey of U.S. commercial pilots conducted by the University of Michigan and its partners, the FAA gained nine points in its overall rating, up to 64 (out of 100). ATC services went up one point to 84, and the agency’s pilot certification and regulation functions rose from 76 to 79. The score for setting “clear and effective” safety standards was only 63, although that was an increase of five points from last year’s survey. Clarity of FARs and how they contribute to safety scored just 55. While this was up from 49, this area “still disappoints commercial pilots,” survey officials said.
