After a Learjet 55 on an IFR flight from Syracuse, N.Y., on February 26 lost voice and transponder communications over Holston Mountain, Tenn., ATC notified the military and two F/A-18s were dispatched to escort the business jet to Florida’s Jacksonville Airport, the closest suitable facility in VMC. Shortly after the loss of communications, Raleigh FSS received a cellphone call from someone aboard the Learjet to report that they had an electrical system failure. The jet, N52CT, is registered to and operated by Coyne Textile Services of Syracuse. Officials there did not return AIN’s calls.
