Israeli satcom antenna maker Starling Advanced Communication announced a deal with EMS Defense & Space Systems, a division of EMS Technologies, to develop, manufacture and market a high-speed Ku-band antenna aimed at the U.S. air transport market.
Under terms of the agreement, Starling and EMS will cooperate on a low-profile broadband antenna that will weigh 45 pounds and deliver data at speeds fast enough to broadcast live tv. Starling lists the attributes of the antenna as global coverage and easy installation on widebody and narrowbody airliners. The antenna will also fit atop bizliners, says the company.
Starling currently markets the Ku-band Mini-Mijet satcom antenna to business aircraft operators. EMS Defense & Space supplies direct broadcast satellite (DBS) antenna systems through LiveTV to JetBlue, Westjet, Virgin Atlantic and other airlines.
