Final Report: Pilot allowed Hawker brakes to get too hot

Hawker Beechcraft 800XP, Santa Ana, Calif., Oct. 29, 2007–The NTSB attributed the Hawker accident to the pilot’s failure to follow airplane flight manual procedures regarding brake cooling time periods.

After two aborted takeoff attempts within 12 minutes, the pilot had started the
third takeoff roll and heard a “pop” as the airplane started to drift left. Smoke and fire was seen coming from the left main gear; the tires were overheated and blew. The hydraulic line was severed and hydraulic fluid leaked onto the hot brake surface and caught fire, causing substantial damage to the aircraft. There were no injuries.
