Content Body

Universal Avionics has received TSO authorization for its first so-called Super FMS, the Tucson, Ariz. company’s latest generation of flight management systems for business aircraft and regional airliners. An STC was also recently completed for installation of the system in the company’s King Air 350. The first Super FMS certification is for the UNS-1E.

The additional Super FMS models, the UNS-1F and UNS-1L, were expected to be certified by the end of last month, a company spokesman said. Universal’s enhanced FMS line is designed to provide 25 times the computational performance of its current systems, said the spokesman, adding that memory has been increased fourfold and the nav database capacity has been increased to 32 megabytes. The new FMS line incorporates an improved LCD and houses an integrated 12-channel combined GPS/Glonass receiver.
