GBAA Appeals for Simplified Bizav Emission Trading

During the Berlin Air Show ILA last week, German Business Aviation Association (GBAA) chairman Dr. Bernd Gans pointed out that the emission trading scheme for aircraft operators planned by the European Commission will further increase the already heavy administrative burden that business aviation operators endure. GBAA is the German chapter of the European Business Aviation Association. According to Gans, European business aviation operators are often small outfits and thus cannot afford to employ specialized staff to manage emission trading. Because of this, Gans suggested that simplified emission-trading procedures be created for aircraft with fewer than 20 seats operating in the region. Meanwhile, he also deplored the closing of Tempelhof, Berlin’s downtown airport. Noting that there will be no guarantee to obtain slots at short notice at the planned large hub of Schoenefeld Airport, the GBAA chairman suggested that an appropriate number of slots be set aside exclusively for business aviation to ensure fair access to the Berlin airport.
