Salina Airport parallel runway opens

A 4,300-ft VFR parallel runway–built with local funds–opened last month at Salina Airport in Kansas. With a distance of more than eight-tenths of a mile between the new runway, designated 18/36, and 13,337-foot primary Runway 17/35, simultaneous VFR operations are expected to be approved. The new runway is expected to relieve congestion on the primary runway. Meanwhile, a refurbishment project that was to have started on the main runway and last for about three months after the new runway opened has been postponed for at least a year, pending the receipt of FAA funding.
