Content Body

Last week at EAA AirVenture in Oshkosh, Wis., Plastek CEO Gus Ordonez announced a version of the company’s military window repair and restoration kit for the civil market. Signal Hill, Calif.,-based Plastek’s aviation-grade polish comes in 12 different strengths, depending on the type of window plastic. The Ezclear kit includes polish and special applicator towels, each strength targeted at the specific window type and without using alcohol or abrasives, according to Ordonez. The cleaning and restoration system includes a mineral oil used to “provide a gliding effect,” he said, to help the cleaning compound do its job. The Plastek system is approved for a variety of aircraft, and Plastek can generally tell customers which strength is needed depending on the aircraft type. While Ordonez said that the Ezclear compound can be used to clean LCD screens in cockpit displays, it is not officially approved for that use and he plans to seek avionics manufacturer approvals.
