The Transportation Security Administration on Friday released two sets of voluntary general aviation security action items (SAI) for FBOs and aircraft operators. The guidance documents do not constitute regulatory requirements and are based on a previously issued TSA publication. The agency noted that most of the measures recommended in the SAIs were included in the TSA’s “Security Guidelines for General Aviation Airports” dated May 2004. According to the TSA, the latest SAIs for FBOs have been reorganized to make them more applicable to FBOs. The SAIs for aircraft operators consist largely of a reorganization and amplification of recommendations that appear in the earlier publication. The TSA acknowledged that some of the suggested security measures might not be suitable for all aircraft operators, especially those with smaller-scale operations. Similarly, the TSA said the suggested security measures might not be suitable for all FBOs, especially smaller facilities.
