Hong Kong and Singapore sign MOU aircraft maintenance

The Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) and the Hong Kong Civil Aviation Department (HKCAD) have signed an enhanced memorandum of understanding (MoU) for aircraft maintenance. The MoU is an expansion of a 2004 reciprocity agreement that permitted MRO companies to maintain components of aircraft registered in either country without the need to obtain separate approval. The most recent MoU expands the coverage from components to include maintenance of aircraft and engines. Lim Kim Choon, director-general and CEO of the CAAS, said, “The conclusion of this enhanced agreement not only demonstrates the close working relationship between CAAS and HKCAD, but also benefits both Singapore and Hong Kong’s aerospace industries by paving the way for new business opportunities and augmenting efficiency in regulation of aircraft maintenance.” It is estimated that more than 75 MROs will benefit.
