SheltAir Aviation Services opened its 12th FBO, at Georgia’s Savannah-Hilton Head International Airport, in late March, offering new competition for the formerly sole Signature Flight Support FBO in Savannah. SheltAir’s new FBO is located in a temporary facility in a 1,400-sq-ft office space attached to a 13,000-sq-ft hangar north of the Gulfstream maintenance facility. Plans by a company called Liberty Ventures to open an FBO in Savannah in mid-2007 did not come to fruition,
and SheltAir purchased the Liberty lease of eight acres on the airport’s southwest quadrant.

SheltAir is building a 7,000-sq-ft FBO terminal, which should be completed
early in the second quarter. Later, the FBO will add more hangars and a taxi-through canopy to the terminal building, according to a spokesman. Fuel prices at Savannah dropped quickly after SheltAir opened, he noted. After the new FBO terminal opens, SheltAir plans to hold a grand-opening reception and “welcome week” to introduce customers to the new facility. SheltAir sister company Holland Builders designed and is constructing the new Savannah FBO facilities.
