Bombardier CL-600-2B16, Vineyard Haven, Mass., Sept. 27, 2009–The twinjet suffered substantial damage to its nose section following a rough landing at Martha’s Vineyard Airport. The Challenger had been cleared for an ILS approach and was approximately 15 to 20 feet above the runway when it encountered wind shear, resulting in a reported 25-knot loss in airspeed. Weather at the time of the accident included gusts to 20 knots, with heavy rain and mist. The aircraft bounced on landing and rolled out without further incident. According to the PIC, the aircraft was visually inspected and departed soon after. When the gear was retracted after takeoff, the nosegear door-open indicator remained illuminated, causing the PIC to divert to Bradley International Airport. FAA inspection revealed damage that included wrinkling of the forward pressure bulkhead.
